The Atlanta Hawks are one of the eight teams excluded from the NBA's return-to-play plan at Disney World in Orlando. Sure enough, Trae Young was frustrated about the decision, but he believes the team is heading to the right direction and loves the progress they have made so far.

“I love the progress that we've made so far, throughout the two years I've been here,” Young said in an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I think we're headed in the right direction as far as talent-wise, guys getting better each and every year, and I can't wait to see guys like Cam and (De'Andre) and their progress and what they're going to come back next year doing. “

Since the Hawks won't be part of the NBA's plans to restart the season, their campaign is officially over — finishing off with a 20-47 record. However, this 2019-20, their young core has shown tremendous upside.

Next season, De'Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish will be in their second year, and Trae Young and Kevin Huerter will be in their third. Additionally, they'll have a proven center in Clint Capela on the roster. With that being said, Young believes his Hawks will have a really good showing in the 2020-21 campaign.

“If we're all on the same path and we're all getting better each and every year, I think this next year is going to be really good for us, especially with John going into his fourth year, me going into my third, Kev same thing. I think we're all at that point now where we're starting to be more comfortable. I'm excited about getting to play with Clint, and it's going to be fun. I don't necessarily want to say too much about what I expect for next year, but it's going to be big things, for sure,” the Hawks All-Star added.

The Hawks will have several months to get ready for 2020-21, and as Young noted, he is already in contact with his teammates about holding workouts in Atlanta or Las Vegas.
