Though his team was defeated, Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young joined an elite group of NBA legends with his performance in Monday night's game against the Toronto Raptors.

Young was all the way in his bag, handing out dimes and scoring with ease. The former No. 5 overall pick logged 39 minutes in the 122-117 loss for the Hawks, scoring a whopping 42 points on 11-of-20 shooting (2-of-7 from beyond the arc), a season-high 15 assists, six rebounds and one steal. Notably, he became the first player to record 40-plus points and 15-plus assists in a game this season.

Despite the fact that he's only in his second season of NBA service, the Hawks guard is already proving to be one of the league's best ball handlers. With Monday's performance, he joined Oscar Robertson and Nate Archibald as the only players to have multiple 40-point, 15-assist games in their first two seasons.

Young's numbers are up by a substantial margin. Last season, he averaged 19.1 points, 8.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds. Through 40 games of his second season, the 21-year-old guard has averaged 29.2 points, 8.6 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals.

Young and the Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday night, when they'll serve as hosts to the Clippers. Tip-off inside State Farm Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Atlanta will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak, while the Clippers are riding a three-game winning streak.
