Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young was hyped up to see his Oklahoma Sooners advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

No. 8 Oklahoma took down no. 9 Missouri Tigers in a tightly contested 72-68 victory on Saturday.

Young may be the star for the Hawks right now, but he obviously still has a ton of love for his alma mater. The 22-year old spent just one season in Oklahoma, where he rose to stardom and became a top college prospect prior to becoming the NBA All-Star he is today.

Unlike the 2021 batch, the Sooners–the no. 10 seed in their region in 2018–didn't advance past the first round during Young's tenure, falling to no. 7 Rhode Island.

Saturday's Oklahoma-Missouri first round battle came down the wire as the Tigers tried to make a late push in the final minute. Missouri star Dru Smith made two 3-pointers within the span of 15 seconds to bring Missouri to within three with 46 seconds to go in the second half.

Smith forced an Oklahoma turnover on the other end, which gave Missouri a legitimate shot to tie the game with 10 ticks remaining. The Tiger were unable to get a shot off from long distance, but Drew Buggs was fouled, giving him two freebies. Buggs only made one, which forced Missouri to foul. Jalen Hill sealed the game for the Sooners to advance to the second round of the tournament.

Oklahoma will now have a tall task ahead of them as they take on Jalen Suggs and the no. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs.

As for Young and the Hawks, they recently just rattled off their eighth straight victory after defeating the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers, 99-94, on Saturday.

Now, the Hawks look to continue the momentum when they take the Staples Center floor again on Monday, this time facing off against the Los Angeles Clippers.
