Former Norfolk State running back Rayquan Smith is entering the transfer portal again in hopes of returning to football after his failed initial attempt a couple of years ago.

Smith, who has proclaimed himself as the “King of NIL” after working his way to 60 plus brand deals, didn't play football in the past 2022 campaign and instead opted to focus on being a track-and-field athlete. He put his name in the transfer portal in 2021, only to withdraw it and stay in NSU as a track star.

Overall in his collegiate football career with Norfolk State, he played a total of 11 games in two seasons, recording 110 rushing attempts for 546 yards and two touchdowns. He also made 13 receptions for the Spartans, resulting to 170 yards and one TD.

In an announcement on social media on Thursday, Smith revealed his desire to go back to football, which is why he's hitting the transfer portal. He plans to do so as a graduate transfer.

“First of all, Norfolk State thank you for everything. The previous four years have been genuinely amazing and unforgettable. I would like to use this chance to express my sincere gratitude to the coaching staff for having faith in me and giving me the opportunity to compete in track and field and college football,” Smith wrote.

“It was an honor to play for renowned coaches like Coach Scott (football) and Coach Giles (track) and it was a huge honor to meet Coach Price who has been a tremendous mentor to me and a key factor in my success over the past four years.”
