The Hampton Pirates men's basketball team continues their search for a win after dropping their first conference game of the season to the Drexel Dragons. The Pirates have lost four games in a row, and three of the losses have been by double digits. They fall to 4-9 overall and are 0-1 in the conference.

The Pirates hung with the Dragons for the first 10 minutes of the opening half, but the game soon got out of hand. Hampton could not stop Drexel's potent offense at all. For a majority of the half, the Dragons literally didn't miss from three-point range. They went 7-7 from deep before missing three straight, wide open looks all on one possession. Drexel didn't have one huge run, nor could they hold Hampton scoreless for a considerable period of time; instead, they scored on nearly every trip down the court, and their early success from three-point range helped build the insurmountable lead.

The Dragons led 55-34 going into the second half, but there still was a sliver of hope for Hampton. Drexel had ridiculous shooting luck to get their lead, so there was a chance that the pendulum could swing the other way. Additionally, it's not like the Dragons had shut the water off the Pirate offense. They still had 34 first half points, which is not bad at all.

Unfortunately, the second half followed the first half's game script. The Dragons continued to outscore Hampton 44-31, though they only made four three-pointers this half. A 12-0 run in the beginning of the half helped Drexel secure a 72-41 lead. The Pirates are a good team with lots of individual talent, but they don't have the offensive firepower to overcome a 31-point deficit. They ended up losing the game 99-65.

The Drexel Dragons shot 11-24 from three as opposed to the Hampton Pirates' 7-29. Mate Okros led all players with 20 points, 12 of which came from his four three-pointers. Amari Williams, on the other hand, didn't attempt a three, but he still had 16 points and six rebounds. Kobe MaGee knocked in two from deep on his way to 12 points. Justin Moore and Yame Butler both had 10 points, with Moore grabbing four rebounds and dishing five assists.

Looking on the bright side for the Pirates, Jordan Nesbitt looked a bit more comfortable in this game. He broke the double-digit scoring threshold for the first time this season, putting up 12 points on 5-10 shooting. Tristan Maxwell also had 12 points. Kyrese Mullen posted yet another double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds. Nesbitt, Maxwell, and Mullen combined for 13 of the team's 16 turnovers. The Dragons had just seven.

Hampton continues their road trip at Delaware on Jan. 4, hoping to avoid dropping their fifth game in a row.
