Former Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning is really liking what he is seeing from Jimmy Butler and the rest of the crew in South Beach this season.

Butler, the new franchise player for the Heat in the post-Dwyane Wade era, has Miami off to a 10-3 start.

Mourning says he's very impressed with how selfless and smart Butler plays on a nightly basis.

“Erik Spoelstra, Pat Riley, all of our basketball front office and operations have done a tremendous job of putting a good, young nucleus together led by Jimmy, who is an All-Star and a great two-way player,” Mourning told Michael Kaskey-Blomain of CBS Sports.

“He's an excellent defender and an excellent offensive player. Somehow, watching Jimmy, he's always making the right play. He really is. It's not really about scoring for him, it's really about making the right play every time, which is one of the reasons that we're playing so well.”

Entering Friday, Butler is averaging 18.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game for the Heat while shooting 42.0 percent from the field, 27.6 percent from beyond the arc and 85.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Miami is well on its way to getting back to the playoffs after missing it last season. With Butler leading the charge, the Heat could make some serious noise in the postseason.
