Miami Heat big man Bam Adebayo is quickly making fans out of some of his Heat teammates. The incoming rookie, who was drafted No. 14 overall out of Kentucky last June, has drawn high praise for different aspects of his game, according to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson.

Tyler Johnson, who figured Abebayo would be more of a lumbering Dwight Howard-type big man due to his imposing physique, has been surprised by the rookie’s ability to defend along the perimeter.

“You put him on the perimeter and he can guard one through five. You would not expect a guy that big and with such broad shoulders to be able to have the touch he has. But he has nice touch. I’m telling you, he’s going to be special.”

Meanwhile, Wayne Ellington is equally high on Adebayo’s potential. The veteran Heat guard has been impressed not only with Adebayo’s athleticism, but also his work ethic and even his shooting.

“He's going to be a force to reckon with in this league for a long time. He's going to be the steal of the draft. Bam as a young guy, his work ethic is so impressive to me. We all know about his athleticism and the way he flies. But he also can shoot pretty well. His jumper has been pretty consistent. He's getting back to the three-point line and he knocks them down and does it pretty consistently.”

Adebayo has certainly made a good first impression with his new team. He showed flashes of his potential during Summer League, where he averaged 16.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game and came up with a few big-time performances.

While it's still way too early to completely buy into his Heat teammates' bold proclamations, Adebayo looks as if he's on the right path toward proving them right.
