The Miami Heat announced through their website that point guard Tyler Johnson had successful surgery on his thumb and is expected to be ready for training camp.

Tyler Johnson underwent successful surgery this morning to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Anne Ouellette and HEAT team physician Dr. Harlan Selesnick at Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute at Doctors Hospital. Johnson will be in a cast for six weeks and is expected to make a full recovery and be available for training camp.

Johnson injured the thumb in Game 3 of their first-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers. Even though it was clear after the injury happened it was affecting his play he was still able to finish out the series. In Game 5, even though the Heat lost he was able to put up 16 points going 2-4 from behind the arc despite the hand injury.

When the injury happened most expected that it would just be able to heal on its own so the Heat Doctors must have found something that they thought needed to be cleaned up.

He played 72 games during the regular season averaging 11.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He shot 43.5 percent from the field, and 36.7 percent from deep.

The former undrafted four-year player out of Fresno State has two years left of a four year, $50 million deal he signed in 2016. Next year he will make over $19 million which is a big raise from the $5.8 million that he made this year.
