Video: Dywane Wade completes lob to Bam Adebayo for insane reverse dunk

Heat, Dwyane Wade, Bam Adebayo

Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside better be careful because Bam Adebayo is coming for his job.

During the Heat’s loss against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night, the second-year center was on the receiving end of an alley-oop pass from shooting guard Dwyane Wade, throwing down an awesome reverse slam to finish it off:

Adebayo went into Tuesday evening averaging 7.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists over 21.2 minutes per game while shooting 54.6 percent from the floor and 72.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The 21-year-old, who played his collegiate basketball at the University of Kentucky, was originally selected by the Heat in the first round (14th pick overall) of the 2017 NBA Draft.

He played in 69 games during his rookie campaign, making 19 starts. During that time, Adebayo registered 6.9 points and 5.5 boards across 19.8 minutes a night while making 51.2 percent of his field-goal attempts and 72.1 percent of his foul shots.

So, here is the deal: Whiteside has a $27 million player option for the 2019-20 campaign, meaning he could opt out of his contract and become a free agent this summer.

Will he? It remains to be seen, as Whiteside’s stock has dropped around the league, so he may not ever get another chance to make $27 million in any single season. However, given the fact that Whiteside will be 30-years-old by the time free agency kicks off in July, he may opt out in order to secure one last big deal.

Either way, Miami appears that it will be in good hands up front whenever Whiteside departs, as Adebayo seems to be the team’s big man of the future.
