Charlotte Hornets point guard Terry Rozier knows he has to grow into a leader if he and the Hornets are going to improve over the next few years.

Rozier is replacing Kemba Walker as Charlotte's new floor general. The rugged defender is trying to learn how to take on a leadership role on the fly and connect with his new teammates as best as possible.

“Trying to talk, connect with guys, I don’t have all the answers,” Rozier said, via Jared Weiss of The Athletic. “I ain’t the best leader. I know that. I’m just trying to keep learning and keep growing, man.”

Terry Rozier and Kemba Walker were traded for each other this summer. Rozier signed a three-year, $56.7 million contract with the Hornets as part of a sign-and-trade with the Boston Celtics. Walker, meanwhile, signed a four-year, $140.79 million deal with the Cs.

Rozier had a down season in 2018-19 because he was back to being a bench player after Kyrie Irving returned from injury. Rozier played well for the Celtics during the 2018 playoffs when he was the starter. In 19 games during Boston’s postseason run, Rozier averaged 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists while shooting 40.6 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from three.

With the Hornets, Rozier will be the full-time starter and won’t have to look over his shoulder. Charlotte is certainly excited to see what the rugged defender can do as a permanent starter in the NBA.

For his career, Rozier has averages of 14.4 points and 5.1 assists as a starter.
