There are plenty of rumors swirling around about Manny Diaz's job security as head coach of the Miami Hurricanes. Miami just fired athletic director Blake James, so it's only natural to wonder about what's coming next for Diaz. A new AD very well might want to hire a new coach.

Well, Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin could be an option. On his College Football Enquirer pod, Yahoo Sports' Dan Wetzel said he spoke with Hurricanes booster Nevin Shapiro about the situation, and Shapiro claimed that Kiffin would be the top candidate to replace Diaz if the decision is made to move on. Florida sports radio host Andy Slater reports Kiffin would indeed leave Ole Miss for Miami if the job opens up and he's offered it.

Kiffin is in his second season as head coach at Ole Miss. He has been in the college ranks since his failed stint as head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2007-08. He then spent one season at Tennessee before bolting for USC, where he spent four seasons.

Kiffin didn't get another head coaching job right away after getting fired by USC, instead going to work for Nick Saban at Alabama as the offensive coordinator. Kiffin got back in the head coaching game with Florida Atlantic in 2017, and then he went to Ole Miss in 2020. The Rebels are 8-2 this season.

It has been quite the roller-coaster ride for Kiffin as a coach, and leaving Ole Miss for Miami would be another big move in his career. The Hurricanes are just 5-5 this season, and they're trying to find somebody to make them a national powerhouse again like they used to be. Miami has only won double-digit games once since the 2003 season under Larry Coker.

Is Lane Kiffin the right man for the Miami job? Maybe! Stay tuned.
