In a crucial rematch at the Women's Gulf Coast Showcase on Sunday, the No. 5-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes avenged their earlier season loss to No. 16 Kansas State with a 77-70 victory. The star of the night was none other than Hawkeyes' sensation Caitlin Clark, who notched her 40th career game scoring at least 30 points.

Her stellar performance of 32 points against the Wildcats didn't just contribute to the team's victory; it also tied Clark with Antoine Davis for the most 30-point games in D1 college basketball over the past 25 years, as reported by Isabel Gonzalez of CBS. Davis, who played for Detroit, set the record last season, but with Clark's senior year still unfolding, it's very possible that she will surpass this milestone. Remarkably, Clark surpassed the previous women's record held by WNBA star Kelsey Plum.

The rematch with Kansas State was a nail-biter, featuring 10 lead changes throughout the night. Clark's seven 3-pointers, coupled with her contributions in assists, rebounds, and steals, were instrumental in Iowa's victory. Clark's scoring has elevated her to the top 25 in women's college basketball history, with a total of 2,986 career points. She is edging closer to the exclusive 3000-point club, a milestone only 14 players have achieved in women's basketball.

The Hawkeyes' strategy in the final moments of the against Kansas State was crucial. The victory was particularly sweet, given Iowa's previous loss to Kansas State earlier this season.

“She always says, ‘Find a way,’” Clark said, recalling Bluder's mantra, as reported by Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press. “We just responded and stayed together.”

Clark’s exceptional performance extended beyond scoring, as she moved up the Division I all-time scoring list, surpassing Appalachian State’s Valorie Whiteside. With 970 career field goals, Clark leads among all active women's college players.

On the other hand, Kansas State, despite rallying from a 13-point deficit and briefly taking the lead in the final quarter, couldn't maintain their momentum. The Wildcats were unable to replicated their earlier victory over Iowa, marked by a strong 3-point defense and free throw advantage.

“We’ve come back on them twice before,” Kansas State coach Jeff Mittie said. “We’ve won the last four minutes of the game the two previous games. Didn’t do it today.”

Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder also reached a milestone during the tournament with her 500th win with Iowa on Saturday, defeating the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. The victory over Kansas State on Sunday marked win number 501 for Bluder.

Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes, now 7-1, look forward to their next game against Bowling Green Falcons on Dec. 2.
