Ever since NFL legend Deion Sanders took over the Jackson State football program, more and more attention has been on them. Now, they've ended added a Power Five assistant to Sanders' staff.
Per Doug Samuels of Football Scoop, Jackson State is hiring seasoned veteran Tim Brewster, who has coached in the NFL, SEC, Big 10, ACC, and the Big 12. Brewster's last head coaching job came at Minnesota from 2007-2010, going 15-30 during that span. Since then, he's held offensive positions at Florida State, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, and North Carolina. He coached with the Chargers and Broncos in the early 2000s as well.
Jackson State is certainly on the come-up, signing top-300 recruit Kevin Coleman to their receiver group in January. Sanders also convinced star cornerback Travis Hunter to choose the Tigers over Florida State, which is huge. That goes to show the impact Primetime is having on this program and the players they bring in.
As an HBCU, there isn't always a lot of attention on Jackson State but Sanders is changing that. Hiring a coach like Tim Brewster is only going to give his players more opportunities to learn from a very experienced football mind who has seen it all at the college level.
