The Jacksonville Jaguars might be looking for a new starting quarterback after benching Blake Bortles in their loss to the Houston Texans. Fox analyst Cris Carter threw out a suggestion for who the Jaguars should replace Bortles with: Colin Kaepernick.

“This is just free advice. Swallow your pride, pick up the phone and call Kap,” Carter said on FS1's “First Things First.” (per TMZ)

“I believe he can make the difference on that football team.”

The Texans game was the final straw for Bortles, who has just not been very good this season. He already has 10 turnovers (eight interceptions and two fumbles lost) in seven games.

Many expected Bortles to build off his strong campaign last year, where he led the Jaguars all the way to the AFC Championship Game. But clearly, that hasn’t been the case.

Cris Carter claims the Jaguars had the chance to sign Kaepernick in preseason, but they passed due to a “political decision.”

“They made a mistake by not signing Kap,” Carter said … “They know it behind the scenes. [Co-host Nick Wright] and I know it. They talked to Kap but we know. It was strictly a political decision.”

Carter also believes is Kap is just better than Bortles — as a passer, runner, winner, and leader.

It’s debatable if Kaepernick actually is that much better than Bortles at this point in his career. He hasn’t played since the 2016 season, and he wasn’t exactly amazing in his last two seasons as a starter.

But at the very least, he has shown more in his career than Cody Kessler and deserves an opportunity to prove himself. However, as bad as Bortles has been, it still seems unlikely that the Jaguars are that desperate enough to heed Carter’s call and give Kap a chance.
