The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Tennessee Titans by a score of 20-7 on Thursday night for their first win of the season. It also marked the first career victory for quarterback Gardner Minshew, and afterward, Minshew spoke about how it felt:

“A lot of people never thought I would get this opportunity, so now that I do have it, I make the most of it,” Minshew said, according to Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com. “I'm super grateful for it, but I know through everything I've learned in my career, with the situation I'm in, I know I may only get one, so you gotta make the most of it. So that's what I'm trying to do now.”

A sixth-round draft pick out of Washington State, Minshew was cast into a starting role in Week 1 when Nick Foles went down with a broken clavicle in the first quarter.

Since being handed the reins under center, Minshew has been surprisingly impressive.

On Thursday evening, he completed 20 of his 30 passes for 204 yards and a couple of touchdowns, and on the season overall, he has thrown for 692 yards, five touchdowns and one interception while completing 73.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 110.6.

Not bad for a guy most thought would never get a real shot in the NFL.

“I think we're all building trust right now,” Minshew said of the team. “Whether it's me and Flip [offensive coordinator John DeFilippo] … or me and the guys on the field, all I can do is try to earn that trust every day, and I think when you do that you get more opportunities to do fun things.”

The Jaguars will head on the road to battle the Denver Broncos next Sunday.
