The Jacksonville Jaguars need to find the right coach this offseason. Following a disastrous experiment with Urban Meyer that didn't even last a full season, Jacksonville is left with a potential franchise quarterback in Trevor Lawrence but with no clear direction as a team.

According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, the Jaguars have talked with former NFL quarterback Josh McCown. Wilson reported that the conversation between McCown and Jacksonville general manager Trent Baalke wasn't a formal interview.

As a player, McCown played 16 years in the NFL for nine different teams. After retiring, McCown coached high school football at Myers Park High School, where his sons played.

Jacksonville's AFC South rival, the Houston Texans, are also pursuing McCown. Rumor has it that the Texans do have serious interest in him, per Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, but they also want another team to talk with him in order to make him seem like a more serious candidate. The Jaguars are making a good move by obliging to talk with McCown.

Hiring a former big-league quarterback would be a smart move for the Jagurs as they look to build around and develop Lawrence. The first overall pick from last year's draft looked nothing like a star. With a more secure coaching staff, he could tap into his potential. He has some talent around him, namely Marvin Jones Jr. and James Robinson, so he could have a big second season if all goes well (which, admittedly, is asking a lot).

Jacksonville has the top overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and a nice collection of draft capital. They have enough skilled players to be a decent team soon. it all hinges on the head coach they hire.
