The Jacksonville Jaguars are not expected to pick up their option on defensive lineman Marcell Dareus, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Had the Jaguars opted to exercise the option, Dareus would have landed nearly $20 million in guaranteed money.

Dareus' 2019 campaign was limited to just six games due to core muscle surgery. During the time he was on the field, he logged 13 tackles and a half of a sack.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was originally selected by the Buffalo Bills with the third overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.

He played in every game during his rookie season and was impressive, totaling 43 tackles, 5.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. Dareus then posted similar numbers the following year, registering 39 tackles, 5.5 sacks and a fumble recovery before making his first Pro Bowl in 2013, when he tallied 71 tackles, 7.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

The Birmingham, Al. native proceeded to have the best season of his career in 2014, racking up 49 tackles, 10 sacks and a forced fumble, which led to the Bills signing him to a massive six-year, $100 million contract extension in September 2015.

However, after inking the new deal, Dareus' production fell off a cliff, as he recorded just 51 tackles and two sacks in 2015 and played only half of 2016 before getting injured.

After five games with Buffalo in 2017, Marcell Dareus was traded to the Jaguars. In 14 contests between both teams that season, he accumulated 28 tackles and a couple of sacks, and in 2018, he finished with 32 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.

Jacksonville went 6-10 and missed the playoffs in 2019.
