Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Myles Jack knows that he can't replace Telvin Smith but he is going to try and be more of a coach on the field. Jack said on Thursday his number one goal heading into the season is to be like a second coach on the field and make sure everyone is lined up where they are supposed to be.

“My goal this offseason was to become a second coach on the field,” Jack said during 2019 Jaguars minicamp via the Jaguars team website “My role in this defense is, No. 1, just get everybody lined up – lead by example and just kind of be someone everyone can lean on.”

Jack also said that he can be vocal if he needs to be, but he really wants to be someone that other players can lean on when they have a question.

“l get vocal if necessary. I have no problem speaking up. But I feel like my position going into Year 4 is I need to be the staple where if someone doesn’t know something I can be the encyclopedia.”

Jack was a second-round pick in the 2016 draft and although some might consider him to be a young player in the league, the expectation is that he will handle himself like a veteran this upcoming year.

Last season Jack racked up 102 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one interception. The stats are going to be important again this year, but more importantly, will be how he leads the rest of the defense into battle every week throughout the season.
