Apparently, Jaz-Z provided a firm “no” to the National Football League.

According to TMZ, Jay-Z claims that the NFL approached him about performing at the Super Bowl. He responded with a firm no, saying, “If you need me, I don't need you,” (in a manner of speaking).

In Jay-Z and Beyonce's new song, “Apesh*t (featuring Quavo and Offset), an interesting lyric hits the audio at the 3:31 mark.

“I said no to the Super Bowl: you need me, I don't need you. Every night we in the endzone, tell the NFL we in stadiums too.”

Though it's not official, the top speculation surrounds the idea Jay rejected the NFL over the handling of the Colin Kaepernick situation. He's criticized the league many times previously, once stopping one of his shows mid-tour in Miami to explain his support of the NFL players. He explained his stance was about “justice and injustice,” not about the flag.

Of course, Justin Timberlake turned out to host Super Bowl 52, the night of triumph for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jay-Z is no stranger to mixing entertainment and sports. He previously owned a small percentage of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets and was there when the team moved from New Jersey to Brooklyn. Though he's no longer an owner, he still frequents the Barclays Center in addition to Madison Square Garden and other NBA/NFL stadiums.
