The Utah Jazz will be without forward Derrick Favors in Sunday night's game against the Dallas Mavericks due to soreness in his right knee.

Favors has averaged 9.8 points and 7.2 rebounds in five games this season. The Jazz forward signed a two-year contract extension back in July. Favors has been a great fit for the Jazz since joining the team back in 2o11.

While his point totals have tapered off over the years, his rebounding and defensive presence have remained stellar. The frontcourt combination of Favors and center Rudy Gobert have cemented Utah among the league's top defensive units. Mavs center DeAndre Jordan is a handful, so the Jazz will need to rely a bit more on Gobert in Sunday's game.

Jae Crowder will presumably benefit the most and could get the start for the injured Favors in Sunday night's game against his former team. Crowder is averaging 11.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in five games this season. While Favors provides the bigger body, Crowder offers more offensive versatility against a young Dallas team.

Due to Favors' injury, Georges Niang and Royce O'Neale could see more minutes on the floor against Dallas. Niang (3.6) and O'Neale (3.4) won't likely be the leading scorers for the Jazz in Sunday's game, but they could offer potential for the team at the forward position.

Derrick Favors' injury does not appear to be serious. He finished Saturday night's game against New Orleans with 10 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks in 19 minutes in a winning effort. He should be back on the court in the near future.
