After the NBA Draft, fans eagerly await hearing what numbers their favorite team's rookies will sport. Of course, a number isn't all that important in the grand scheme of things, but it's an interesting tidbit nonetheless. Grayson Allen will don the number 24 in Utah mainly because he felt it jumped off the page at him.

The 22-year-old out of Duke also credits Kobe Bryant as a reason for his selection of 24. Bryant is a good guy to want to emulate.

Allen grew up watching the 18-time All-Star while he was dominating the league in Los Angeles and 24 is a number that most people identify with the Black Mamba.

Bryant famously changed his number from 8 to 24 in 2006, but there's no need to question Allen's knowledge of basketball history. Kobe's original number is already taken by Utah's Jonas Jerebko so even if Allen wanted to go with Kobe's original number, he couldn't.

Choosing jersey numbers is always fun at any level of basketball, but it sounds like Allen is just excited to be in Utah. He's joining an up-and-coming team that shocked everyone by making the Western Conference Semifinals last season before falling to the Houston Rockets.

Allen should feel right at home alongside last year's rookie sensation Donovan Mitchell, the 2017-18 Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert, and fellow instigator Joe Ingles. They're looking to improve on their second-round ouster in 2018-19 and if Grayson Allen can play anywhere near the level of his jersey inspiration, they'll be well on their way in Salt Lake.
