On Instagram Live on Sunday, Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert addressed his now-infamous incident where he jokingly touched all the microphones of reporters after an interview in March.

Gobert would of course soon after become the first NBA player diagnosed with coronavirus which led to the league suspending its season indefinitely on March 11.

When asked if he has any regrets regarding the incident, the two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year had the following to say per Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune:

“I'm someone that jokes around all the time. People that really know me now my heart. Touching the mics made me look bad. It's all about perception. … It made me look like someone who doesn't care about other people's lives.”

The incident in question led to much ire from fans, media and fellow players towards Gobert and it was even reported recently that Gobert's relationship with fellow star Donovan Mitchell was not salvageable after Mitchell also tested positive for COVID-19

However, on the same Instagram Live, the Jazz All-Star dispelled those rumors and stated that while he and Mitchell did not talk for a few days, the two are now back on good terms and are focused on getting back to playing and winning a championship.

Gobert was in the midst of one of his best statistical seasons prior to the seasons being suspended. Through 64 games, the 7-foot-1 French center was averaging 15.1 points, a career-best 13.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting an incredibly efficient 69.8 percent from the field.
