Rudy Gobert has provided an update on the status of Utah Jazz teammate Donovan Mitchell following Friday's injury scare.

Mitchell was forced to exit the game early in the third period due to an ankle issue. According to Gobert, however, the athletic guard appeared to be in good spirits after his team pulled off a 119-111 victory over the Indiana Pacers.

“I saw him in the locker room — he was in great spirits, so hopefully he can be back very soon,” Gobert said, via Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune.

Mike Conley doubled down on Gobert's statement, adding that Mitchell was even making a lot of jokes in the locker room.

Donovan Mitchell could not put any weight on his right foot after he went down and had to be helped by his teammates to the locker room.

For what it's worth, it was reported that initial tests came out clean and that no structural damage has been discovered. This is obviously an excellent development, but further tests on Saturday should provide more details as to Mitchell's potential return date.

Should he miss time, Rudy Gobert and the rest of the Jazz will be hard-pressed to maintain their status as the top dog in the Western Conference. Following Friday's win, they are now a game and a half ahead of the Phoenix Suns for the top spot in the conference.

The Suns have won four straight games, while the third-placed Los Angeles Clippers are on a seven-game winning streak. With that said, it goes without saying that there are a couple of teams out West that are gunning for Utah's No. 1 spot right now.
