Quin Snyder's decision to step down as the Utah Jazz' head coach was the biggest headline of Sunday. The head coach led his team to multiple playoff appearances, but never quite seemed to piece together a true Finals contender. Still, his departure is a big blow to this team, who clearly thrived under his tutelage.

Many fans were wondering what spurred Snyder to leave the Jazz all of a sudden. There was speculation whether the franchise was satisfied with his recent performances. However, Snyder himself said that there were no “philosophical differences”, and that he felt the team “needed a new voice”. (via David Locke)

“I strongly feel they need a new voice to continue to evolve. That’s it. No philosophical differences, no other reason. After 8 years, I just feel it is time to move onward. I needed to take time to detach after the season and make sure this was the right decision”

Evolution is exactly what the Jazz need after years of playoff disappointment. Snyder's teams would routinely give great performances in the regular season. However, Utah would collapse in the playoffs year after year like clockwork. It became increasingly clear over the years that something needed to change if they wanted to succeed.

Health could also have played a major factor in Snyder's decision to leave the team. The Jazz coach underwent hip surgery during the season, after all. Either way, this move could just be the start of many major changes in the organization, as their stars become more uncertain about their future.
