As crazy as it might seem for some NBA fans, this summer will mark the 10-year anniversary of ā€œThe Decisionā€ television special when LeBron James announced he would be joining the Miami Heat. At that time, some of today's stars, including Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, were only just beginning their pursuits of a career in basketball.

Mitchell was just 13 years old when James declared he was leaving his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers to form a ā€œBig Threeā€ in Miami.

Interestingly enough, the production location was in Greenwich, Connecticut, just a few miles from where the Jazz All-Star grew up.

James received quite a bit of criticism for his choice at the time. Not only was he leaving his boyhood franchise, but LeBron also made the declaration in front of a live audience on national television.

However, the move was a seminal moment in NBA history, and it has also changed how today's stars market themselves and make choices in free agency.

Donovan Mitchell and the Jazz are hoping to dethrone LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers as the NBA restart begins in Orlando later in July. However, Mitchell will always remember where he was when ā€œThe Decisionā€ changed the course of NBA history.
