Jeremy Lin has been outspoken about racial issues that pertain to Asian Americans, and he has received a ton of support from other athletes. Among the people who have expressed support is Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who commended Lin for his efforts.

Late last month, Lin revealed that he had dealt with racism in the NBA G-League after someone called him a racial slur. While showing support in Lin's stance on the matter, Roberts discussed the issues he's faced, given his mother is Japanese.

“I have just come to a peace about speaking out about things that I believe are right,” Roberts said, per The Athletic. “And this particular situation towards Asians, Asian Americans, is something that obviously affects me personally, having a mother from Okinawa, Japan. Seeing what’s going on in our country, I just felt that I wanted to internally put something together for our organization, showing my support toward Asian Americans in our organization and acknowledge what’s going in our country and around the world that I just don’t believe is right.”

The topic of racism has been at the forefront in sports as there have been racial incidents unfortunately taking place in recent years. Even though Jeremy Lin was a victim of racism himself, it was admirable for him to come out in defense of Asian Americans around the world.

Roberts, who coaches in a sport that is extremely diverse—and who is personally affected by racial concerns—understands that it's going to take a team effort to combat racial issues. Therefore, he realizes that Lin standing up for what is right could be the start of a positive movement.
