In one of the more controversial decisions in recent sports history, Florida State football was left out of the College Football Playoff despite going undefeated this season and winning the ACC Championship Game over Louisville. A huge reason behind their snub was the injury to quarterback Jordan Travis, who would be unable to play in any playoff game.

Even so, many argued that it was unfair to the Seminoles. No other undefeated team in a Power-5 conference had been left out of the playoff before. Instead, one-loss teams in Texas and Alabama both made the playoff over the Seminoles.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was one of the many who disagreed with the decision. “Florida State was my team growing up and I think they should've got in over Texas,” Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee Show.

While Rodgers' take that Florida State football should have been in isn't unusual, his choice to take the Seminoles over Texas is. Many believed that Florida State should have made it over Alabama, not Texas, since the Longhorns beat the Crimson Tide earlier in the season. Still, some feel that Alabama emerged into the better team by the end of the year. All in all, both Alabama and Texas fans can rest easy knowing their teams made it.

This controversy once again reinforces the decision to make the College Football Playoff a 12 team race. Unfortunately for great teams like Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia and Florida State, that playoff expansion doesn't start until next year.
