New York Jets head coach Adam Gase has been under fire for his performance and is currently on the hot seat. ESPN analyst and former NFL offensive guard Damien Woody is going in on the second-year coach.
On ESPN program Get Up, Woody went on an incredible rant about Gase, calling out the coach.
Yikes, he really did not hold back. Clearly Woody was holding on to some of these emotions for quite a bit.
The analyst ripped apart the “offensive brilliance” tag that seems to follow Gase around. To do so, he pointed out a few players. Woody started with superstar running back Le'Veon Bell. A few years ago he was one of the best running backs in the NFL. In fact, for a few years many people would have easily placed him right at the top.
As Woody puts it, Bell is now “scrub status”—and it's hard to argue with the fact that he has looked absolutely lost out there since joining the Jets.
Next, Woody goes to Sam Darnold. He talks about how there was so much potential with the quarterback his rookie year and how it seemed like he could be molded into a star, but nothing has happened since Gase has arrived.
Finally, Woody says that out of all the teams in Week 1, the Jets were the worst. He goes as far as saying it looked like a game between Varsity and JV as they faced off with the Buffalo Bills.
What really shows how emotional he was though, was the ending. Woody clearly had more to say, but stutters and stops himself before declaring “I'm done!”.
It sounds like he was not done and could have easily kept going. But he did not want to get too frustrated and decided he had already ripped on the coach enough.
There are a lot of people that would agree with the analyst's sentiments. However, Gase is still the head coach for the time being. Can he turn it around and change the perception on him back into a good one? Or is he going to continue to struggle and get cut loose soon?
The Jets face off with the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2, so they have a very tough contest ahead of them. No excuses though, Gase needs to find a way to get his offense going or he could be gone soon.
