The New York Jets have been dealt with another injury blow after Marcus Maye suffered an ankle injury that will sideline him for weeks.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Jets' top defensive player will miss three to four weeks due to the ankle issue. Meanwhile, per the New York Post, Maye apparently suffered the injury after their Week 3 game against the Denver Broncos as his ankle swelled up following the contest. He showed up in the team's injury report after Wednesday's practice despite not being a participant.

Unfortunately for the Jets, the injury came after Lamarcus Joyner suffered what is expected to be a season-ending elbow injury in Week 1. Joyner reportedly tore a tendon in his arm which will require surgery, making it unlikely for him to return this 2021 season.

That means two Safeties down for the Jets, forcing Robert Saleh and Co. to dig deep into the roster to fill the void left by the two. Jarrod Wilson and Adrian Colbert are the only two active Safeties for the team, but Ashtyn Davis and Sharrod Neasman did practice on Wednesday after battling their own injuries–giving New York a slight boost amid their defensive woes.

Marcus Maye's absence, however, will certainly be felt by the Jets considering that he has been healthy over the past couple of years, playing and starting in all 16 games during the 2019 and 2020 campaigns. Not to mention that the team is still winless after three straight losses to the Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots and Broncos.
