The New York Jets are making roster moves ahead of the 2020 season, and they made a surprising one on Monday. According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jets decided to release wide receiver Quincy Enunwa.

Earlier this offseason, it was discovered that Enunwa was going to miss the entire 2020 season. The veteran wide receiver was put on the reserve/PUP list due to a neck ailment described as spinal stenosis.

Near the end of the 2018 season, Enunwa signed a four-year, $36 million extension with the Jets. However, in just his second year into the contract, New York is parting ways with Enunwa as he battles back from injury. At the least, Enunwa will still get the $6 million that was owed to him this season.

Enunwa began his career with the Jets as a sixth-round pick out of Nebraska in the 2014 NFL Draft. After a quiet rookie season, Enunwa would contribute 22 receptions for 315 yards in 2015.

Following his 2015 campaign, Enunwa began to evolve into a reliable wide receiver in New York's offense. Altogether, in 2016 and 2018, Enunwa combined for 96 receptions, 1,306 yards, and five touchdowns. Although, it's important to note that Enunwa missed the 2017 season due to a bulging disk in his neck.

With Enunwa no longer on the roster, the Jets are going to rely on Jamison Crowder, Breshad Perriman, and rookie Denzel Mims. Meanwhile, the team also hopes Le'Veon Bell and Chris Herndon can be viable options through the air. Even though Enunwa won't be on a roster this season, hopefully he's able to battle his way back onto a roster in 2021.
