The New York Jets selected wide receiver Denzel Mims out of Baylor in the second round (No. 59 overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.

However, Mims is yet to take the field in the pros thanks to concurrent hamstring injuries that cost him most of training camp and the first six weeks of the season.

Mims seems ready to make his NFL debut this Sunday when the Jets host the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium. Clearly, the New York offense and Sam Darnold could use an infusion of talent, as the Jets (0-6) have been the worst team in football in 2020 and rank at the bottom in nearly every conceivable offensive category.

Darnold didn't hide his enthusiasm for Mims' enticing ability.

“As he continues to learn the game plan and put things together, he builds his confidence and plays really well,” Darnold said, via NJ.com. “Things today where he went up and made a catch, even went downstairs and caught a ball low. It was really good to see that. You see the talent, for sure. It’s just about him continuing to study the game plan and make sure he knows things that way.”

Jets head coach Adam Gase highlighted how Mims' potential presence as a deep-threat can impact the offense, but noted that he's still got plenty to learn.

“He’s got incredible length, range, he can go up and get the ball, speed,” Gase said. “He has all those traits that you’re looking for in a guy that can be a really good receiver. It’s just keep teaching him technique, scheme, coverages, all those little details that he might not have seen a lot of in college.”

Gase hasn't quite committed to Mims playing against the Bills in Week 7, though he's been optimistic about the possibility. Considering the team's abysmal start, there doesn't seem to be a reason not to give the rookie his first taste of NFL action, assuming his hamstring is fully healed. (Of course, the Jets don't seem to follow basic logic.)

Darnold, too, could return to the field in Week 7 after he missed the past two games with a shoulder sprain.
