New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles already has a “good idea” about who his starting quarterback is going to be among the trio of Sam Darnold, Teddy Bridgewater, and Josh McCown. But he’s not ready to make a definitive decision just yet.

Bowles tells Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated that he will first confer with his coaches after their final preseason game on Thursday before making his choice.

“Sitting down with the coaches, we’ll go over everything and everybody will give their opinion,” Bowles said. “We just haven’t talked about it, and we won’t until after the last preseason game. We’ll sit down as a staff and we’ll go over every position, including that one, and we’ll come out with our guys.”

Bowles adds that he has “no doubt” that waiting will not negatively affect the team’s preparations for the season opener.

Based on their first three preseason games, all signs point to Sam Darnold getting the nod. The rookie has looked solid and capable when he’s been on the field. Even his Jets teammates believe he will ultimately get the job.

Bowles and his coaches still have one more preseason game left to form their opinions about their three quarterbacks. But unless something significant happens against the Eagles that drastically changes their minds, it would be a shock if they didn’t end up going with Darnold after their meeting.
