Adam Gase's New York Jets fell to 0-4 with an ugly 37-28 loss to the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, but Gase's job still isn't in jeopardy. In fact, while it sure seems as if Gase is, or at least should be, on the hot seat, The Athletic's Connor Hughes reports the Jets don't plan to fire the embattled head coach this season.

It was reported before Thursday's loss to the Broncos that the game wouldn't determine the head coach's future. Now, it'll take “dramatic circumstances” to move off Gase this season, even despite the Jets' struggles and loud public outcry.

There have reportedly been internal discussions about moving on from Gase, but New York is keeping him around for now in the hopes that he can help young quarterback Sam Darnold develop. The 23-year-old has had a rough go of it to start this season, putting forth another mediocre performance on Thursday night. He completed just 23 of 42 pass attempts for 230 yards, though he did rush six times for 84 yards and a score.

On the season, Darnold has completed just 59.4% of his passes for 792 yards in four games. He has three touchdown passes and four interceptions, adding up to a dismal quarterback rating of 70.7. This comes after a bad rookie season and only a slight improvement in Year 2.

Gase was hired by the Jets last year after he spent three years as head coach of the Miami Dolphins. The 42-year-old went 10-6 in his first season with the Dolphins, but he hasn't gone over .500 since. He started 1-7 with the Jets before rallying to go 7-9 last year.

Gase is determined to turn this ship around:

“We’re working to get this thing right. I’m not happy about this,” Gase said in his postgame press conference, via ProFootballTalk. “I know we can play way better than this. I know we can not beat ourselves and do the things we’re doing.”

The Jets play the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5.
