New York Jets safety Jamal Adams has made it clear that he would like to be elsewhere before the start of the 2020 NFL season. Although there is plenty of speculation regarding potential landing spots, rumors behind his reasoning for wanting to leave have started to swirl.

The saga between Adams and the Jets became a storyline during their tumultuous 2019 campaign. According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, his souring relationship with head coach Adam Gase has reportedly served as the catalyst behind his request for a trade:

The prospect of Adams not getting along with Gase hardly comes as any surprise considering the latter has struggled to connect with his star players since taking over last offseason. The most notable example came when he and running back Le'Veon Bell struggled to see eye-to-eye upon his arrival leading up to the 2019 campaign.

While the Jets may hold all the leverage in Adams' situation, Gase's inability to earn the trust of his players is a major cause for concern in their long-term plans. Even if they do opt to cut ties and trade the All-Pro to one of his many potential suitors, the team could find themselves struggling to establish a strong locker room culture under the current regime.

Furthermore, Gase's presence could also deter other free agents from considering New York as a landing spot in the years to come.
