Not much has gone the Cincinnati Reds’ way through 19 games played in the 2022 season.

The Reds were swept by the San Diego Padres on Thursday, as they wound up allowing 24 total runs over the three-game series. They now hold a 3-16 record on the season, which is by far the worst record in MLB so far this year.

Reds first baseman Joey Votto has been a part of plenty of highs and lows with the franchise since his debut campaign back in 2007. For one, the one-time National League MVP Award winner featured for Cincinnati during its 3-18 start in the 2018 season.

For Votto, he sees that being a part of the Reds' 3-16 start to the campaign has been quite “embarrassing.”

“This is awful to experience each and every day,” Votto said after the Reds’ 7-5 loss to the Padres on Thursday. “We're competitors, professionally. We're competitors. Our job is to win. To go out and get smacked around every day is anti-everything that we're about.

“For me, it's an awful and embarrassing experience. You have to keep going. But when you're in the middle of it, it's definitely embarrassing.”

Votto is off to a slow start this season, which includes a .129 batting average and a .299 OBP through 19 games played. Overall, out of the nine Reds hitters who earned a start in Thursday’s game, only Kyle Farmer (.279) is currently hitting above .250.

The Reds will now open up a six-game road trip beginning with a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies this weekend.
