R&B artist John Legend will make his return to the NBA All-Star weekend as the game's halftime performer, according to a league announcement on Monday.
This is hardly Legend's first time performing in NBA circles — the Grammy and Oscar-winning singer-songwriter has previously performed the national anthem at the annual showcase in Houston in 2013 and was a halftime performer in Phoenix in 2009.
Legend, who's now also a producer, first catapulted to stardom with his platinum-selling album “Get Lifted” in 2004. Following hits including “Ordinary People,” “Green Light,” “Glory,” and “All of Me,” Legend garnered global recognition with 10 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe.
The 2017 All-Star Game is scheduled for Feb. 19 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans after the NBA relocated the event from Charlotte, North Carolina, because of a state law that requires transgender people to use bathrooms that correspond to their birth gender in public buildings.
Legend released his fifth and most recent album, “Darkness and Light,” in December.
The All-Star Game will air live on TNT, with coverage starting at 8 p.m. ET.
