Jordan Howard became a member of the Philadelphia Eagles in March. Less than a month later, the franchise drafted Miles Sanders.

Howard is in the final year of his contract and now he now faces plenty of competition in Philly's backfield with the standout rookie from Penn State, as well as a host of other backs that populated the depth chart a year ago.

Howard’s a lock to make the roster, so there's no issue there. But with a second-round pick looming, Howard could lose playing time that will cost him while negotiating a new contract. Howard doesn't seem concerned, though, telling NBC Sports Philadelphia that he and Sanders “complement each other” as running backs.

“Nah, it doesn’t worry me at all,” Howard said on Tuesday after his first practice as an Eagle. “I just have to focus on the year ahead. I can’t worry about being a free agent or anything like that. I just have to worry about the season ahead.”

Howard will be trying to reverse two big trends with the Eagles this season.

First, his rushing production has decreased in each of the two seasons following his rookie year. Howard’s rushing totals have dropped from 1,313 to 1,122 to 935, his yards per rush from 5.1 to 4.2 to 3.7.

Second, Howard’s receptions have also dropped, from 29 to 23 to 20. After averaging 10.3 yards per reception as a rookie, his yards per catch was almost cut in half his second season (5.4) but did bump up last season (7.3).

The Eagles' backfield is stacked with the return of Cory Clement and Josh Adams, but Howard seems motivated to prove his worth among the crowd.
