Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards are finally set to meet as the UFC has signed off on the matchup. The two have been on each other's radar for almost two years.

Ariel Helwani first reported the news that the matchup was in the works for UFC 269. The card gets even more stacked and welterweight starts to move forward with the division.

The two have been linked to fight for years, dating back to March 2019. Jorge Masvidal famously hit Leon Edwards backstage and call it ‘three-piece and a soda.'

The incident made it seem obvious to everyone that they needed to fight next. Jorge Masvidal would go on to fight Ben Askren and Nate Diaz next instead of Leon Edwards.

Jorge Masvidal last competed against Kamaru Usman, facing the champion two times in a row. He lost the first by unanimous decision and then the second by knockout.

Before that, Jorge Masvidal was on a three-fight win streak that included knockouts over Darren Till and Ben Askren. He also beat Nate Diaz by doctor stoppage for the famous ‘BMF' belt.

Leon Edwards is coming off of a dominant showing against Nate Diaz. The Englishman has not lost since 2015 and many have him next in line for the welterweight title with a win against Jorge Masvidal.

UFC 269 is a stacked card that features title fights with Amanda Nunes vs Julianna Pena, and Charles Oliveira vs Dustin Poirier. UFC 269 is set to go down on December 11, 2021 with a venue and city yet to be announced.
