The most dangerous receiver in the NFL was not in action on Sunday, but it didn't make much of a different against the lowly Los Angeles Rams. But, as the Atlanta Falcons head toward the playoffs, a healthy Julio Jones is vital to their success.

At 8-5, Atlanta is currently tied with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for first place in the NFC South. Jones' status for this Sunday is still up in the air, but Atlanta should be able to handle a porous 49ers squad, with or without him.

Originally, Jones' injury was reported to be turf toe. As football fans know, this can linger for quite some time, hampering skill players from reaching full speed in the open field and making cuts.

Luckily, head coach Dan Quinn has clarified Julio's actual injury.

Sprained toe, rather than turf toe

From ESPN's Vaughn McClure:

Falcons coach Dan Quinn said on 92.9 The Game radio that Julio Jones has a toe sprain and not turf toe.

Jones was expected to be back at practice later this week regardless, but the potential downfalls of a toe sprain, compared to turf toe, are much less grim.

Turf toe is a sprain of the ligaments around the big toe. A player can tough it out and play, but it usually diminishes speed and quickness. With a sprain of the toe itself, it's more about pain management, with one's physical capabilities usually unharmed.
