The Minnesota Timberwolves are one of the most promising teams in the NBA this season, with talent from head-to-toe that can surely shake things up on the Western Conference.

Fresh off a Rookie of the Year campaign, the 2015 No. 1 pick Karl-Anthony Towns is continuing to learn, this time under the tutelage of new head coach Tom Thibodeau.

Speaking with Jared Zwerling at the Call of Duty World Championship, Towns opened up about his relationship with his new coach:

“It’s awesome,” he said. “He’s taught me a lot so far. He’s really smart, he’s a great guy. I look at him not even as my coach, but as a good friend of mine, and that’s how it has to be.”

The 7-footer had a dominant rookie year, but can grow into a defensive powerhouse under the teachings of Thibodeau:

“If we want to be able to go to another spot to something greater, we have to always be on the same page and have a good rapport,” said Towns. “That’s what we do have.”

The Kentucky product averaged 1.7 blocks in his first year along with 18.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game:

“We have to take that next step if we wanna be a playoff team and a championship team,” Towns told Fox Sports in a separate interview.
