Sacramento Kings swingman Buddy Hield is a native of the country of the Bahamas, which was one of the targets in the path of a Category 5 hurricane in September. In his efforts, the 26-year-old NBA-er is doing the most to raise awareness and point towards relief to help the people of the Bahamas, who saw lives destroyed and possessions and homes underwater.

Per Renaldo Dorsett in The Tribune:

“I’m just trying to raise awareness where people can donate water, food, lumber, healthcare supplies and anything they can to help my Bahamian people. Whatever your desire is to help my country, please do. I know they will appreciate it,” Hield told ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt.

“Seeing footage for what Hurricane Dorian has done to the islands, it left me heartbroken. The Bahamas is in a really bad place right now. People have gotten sick really bad, and hospitals are being damaged.”

Hield, a lottery selection of the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2016 NBA Draft before being traded to the Kings in February of 2017, has already donated north of $100,000 for Bahamians searching for relief, and set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise more for the people tragically affected by the natural disaster.

Another Oklahoma Sooners basketball alumnus in Atlanta Hawks second-year point guard Trae Young kicked in $25,000 to Hield's cause, proving the generosity and thoughtfulness of the young star. Hurricane Dorian had stretched through Caribbean nations and the southeastern shores of the United States.
