The Sacramento Kings have been ridiculed for missing out on Luka Doncic when they selected Marvin Bagley III second overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. Ideally, the Kings would be keen on helping Bagley reach his ceiling, but that might not happen in Sacramento after all.

ESPN's Bobby Marks mentioned a clause in Bagley's contract that may suggest the Kings are more focused on financial matters rather than their young player's development.

One thing to keep in mind with Marvin Bagley III is the starter criteria in his contract. If Bagley does not start 41 games or plays 2000 minutes this season, his Qualifying Offer for next offseason will drop from $14.8M to $7.3M.

Bagley's agency, Excel Sports, recently released a statement, calling out the Kings for their questionable decision to not include the former Duke standout in their rotation.

Sacramento already has a thin frontline with Richaun Holmes and Tristan Thompson as the only big men who are regular rotation-caliber players. Alex Len will have his moments from time to time, though. Still, this isn't the type of so-called depth that would warrant such handling of Bagley.

In three seasons, thus far, for the Kings, Bagley holds averages of 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in 25.5 minutes per game. There have been questions surrounding his work ethic and defensive effort, which haven't helped his case with the Kings' coaching staff.

For what it's worth, Kings fans can take solace in the fact that Bagley's situation is far from the nightmare the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers are stuck with right now.
