In a joint effort with the NBA, the Sacramento Kings have come to the conclusion that there was not sufficient evidence to support sexual assault allegations against Luke Walton. Kelli Tennant, the woman who brought forth the charges, did not participate in the investigation.

Tennant, a former sports reporter, first brought forth the charges on April 22, 2019. Her accusations dated back to before Walton had become a head coach, when he was working with Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors.

The NBA was quick to investigate the charges and interviewed more than 20 individuals. They ended their investigation on Friday, and the case will remain closed unless new evidence is brought to light.

The Kings released this statement, via Jason Jones of The Athletic:

“Luke Walton is our head coach and we support him and his team as they continue to prepare for the upcoming season.”

Walton also released a statement:

“I am 100% focused on coaching the Sacramento Kings, and energized to work with this incredible group of players and coaches as we start the preseason. I will have no further comment.”

The Kings are coming off a season in which they saw large improvements. Now, the playoffs are in sight for the young team, and Walton will look to lead them there after struggling as a head coach with the Los Angeles Lakers.
