Bogdan Bogdanovic signed with the Atlanta Hawks this offseason after the Sacramento Kings refused to match the offer sheet worth $72 million over four years. While Sacramento's decision was met with criticisms after letting talent walk away for free, the team apparently has a big reason for doing so.

Sacramento general manager Monte McNair recently explained the team's thought process in regards to Bogdanovic, noting that not matching the offer will allow them to have cap flexibility moving forward. The Kings also saw it as an opportunity for other guards on the team to have more playing time.

To recall, before deciding not to match Bogdan Bogdanovic's offer sheet from the Hawks, the Kings actually traded the Serbian guard to the Milwaukee Bucks. However, the deal fell through as Bogdanovic apparently didn't approve the trade. He was a restricted free agent, so he had the right to get offer sheets from other teams and sign it and let Sacramento decide whether they will match it or not.

For what it's worth, the Hawks now sit in prime position to make some serious noise in the Eastern Conference, as Atlanta has certainly improved in a big way this offseason. Between the 2020 NBA Draft and free agency, the Hawks have cashed in big time. Now, only time will tell if it's all worth it.
