The Sacramento Kings made it clear that they're not going to prolong their coaching search after they hired former Los Angeles Lakers coach Luke Walton shortly after firing Dave Joerger.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr congratulated Walton, saying he has a great opportunity to lead another young team.

The Kings fired Dave Joerger immediately after the end of the regular season. Meanwhile, Luke Walton and the Lakers mutually agreed to part ways after a poor season marred with injuries and locker room issues.

Luke spent three seasons with the Lakers, and although the team has improved during that span, it wasn't enough. The Purple and Gold signed four-time MVP LeBron James to a four-year deal last summer, but they have been a disappointment this season. LA finished with a 37-45 record, 11th in the Western Conference.

In his three years in LA, Walton finished with a record of 98-148.

Walton's situation with the Kings will be similar to what he had with the Lakers, minus the pressure and expectation that come along with a guy like LeBron. He will be calling the shots for a team with a promising young core of De'Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield and Bogdan Bogdanovic.

The Kings were one of the most improved teams this season. During the final stretch of the regular season, it looked like they were going to make the playoffs, but a string of losses slowly took them out of contention.
