LOS ANGELES – Kawhi Leonard made his free agency decision on July 6th, spurning the Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Lakers for the LA Clippers. Apparently, Leonard also spurned the New York Knicks as well.

Ahead of Sunday afternoon's matchup between the Clippers and Knicks, Kawhi Leonard was asked by members of the New York media about his free agency decision. According to Ian Begley of SNY and Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, the Knicks claimed there were meetings set up between Leonard and the New York franchise during free agency.

Leonard shot down the notion that he was considering the Knicks in free agency.

“I never said I was considering going to the Knicks,” Leonard said. “Everybody knew where I wanted to go and that was requested in the trade, so I don’t know where that came from.”

When asked to confirm that he had no meeting schedule, Leonard responded, “not that I’m aware of, no.”

The Knicks traded away Kristaps Porzingis last season to create salary cap space in hopes of attracting free agents like Leonard, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving. Unfortunately for them, they didn't get any of the three superstar players in free agency.

According to Begley, the Knicks felt they had a legitimate shot, albeit a long shot, at landing Leonard in free agency due to the relationship between his uncle, Dennis Robertson, and top New York executives.

As it turns out, Leonard did not meet with New York, stating his desire to come home to Los Angeles was known for a long time.
