The New York Knicks are doing what they can to be better this season. Aside from making a coaching change, they have also added David Blatt to their front office. The former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach serves as the team's Basketball Operations consultant and according to reports, one of the tasks given to him is to look for talented prospects in Europe, per Marc Berman of the NY Post.
According to an NBA source, Blatt, who coached in Israel, Turkey and Greece, will do some European scouting.
Though his title as consultant to basketball operations is vague, he will be used in many capacities in evaluating players — and perhaps will help unlock the mystery that is French point guard Frank Ntilikina. Evaluating and giving input to Miller also will be part of Blatt’s gig.
The Knicks once had a European prospect with a tremendous amount of potential, and that is Kristaps Porzingis, whom they traded to the Dallas Mavericks at the end of last season. They also have Ntilikina, who has more downs than ups in his young career.
The Knicks are hoping that Blatt will be able to help them turn things around, and they will be relying on his familiarity with the European basketball leagues in order to accomplish his job.
New York is still one of the worst teams in the league right now and it doesn't look like they will improve anytime soon. After missing on their free-agent targets this summer, they are looking to build their team through the draft once again.
