The only constant thing in the world is change. Also, Tom Thibodeau and Derrick Rose on the same team.
Rose made his official return for the New York Knicks as he suited up on Tuesday against the visiting Miami Heat. While they lost a close one, 98-96, the former MVP provided a spark off the bench, exactly the role Thibodeau envisions him to embrace. Rose finished with 14 points, three assists, a steal, and a block in 20 productive minutes.
Despite still adjusting to his second rendezvous with the Knicks, Thibodeau played Rose in the crucial moments of the game, showing his full trust to the highly athletic guard.
After the game, Rose gushed about his lasting relationship with Thibodeau, quite adorably tagging themselves as an “odd couple.”
Rose and Thibodeau had their glory years with the Chicago Bulls, leading the team to an Eastern Conference Finals berth in 2011. The veteran tactician also stood by the former Memphis standout when he tragically injured his ACL the following season.
After going on separate ways for a few years, the two got reunited with the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2018-2019 season, where Rose saw a career resurgence, even memorably scoring a career-high 50 points against the Utah Jazz.
Now, Thibodeau and Rose have reunited once again as they try to steer the Knicks to the NBA Playoffs. The 32-year-old Rose has found his niche as an instant offense guy with the Detroit Pistons and he's expected to bring that same energy to the Knicks, who shipped out Dennis Smith Jr. to acquire him.
