Derrick Rose lasted all of just one season with the New York Knicks before moving on to the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason. According to the New York Daily News’ Stefan Bondy, Rose would’ve welcomed extending his stay in the Big Apple. Unfortunately, the Knicks didn’t seem to want him back.

“From our side, we were just waiting to see what was going to happen. We didn’t hear anything. So with us not hearing anything, we knew they were probably looking somewhere else. And they drafted a point guard. Both sides were on two different wavelengths.” Rose said Sunday.

“I would’ve loved to come back. I loved playing there even though we lost,” he added. “The city itself, the fans, like everything about it. They made changes. Phil being gone, I would’ve loved being part of it.”

This is indicative of just how low Rose’s stock has fallen that the Knicks were willing to choose Ramon Sessions and Ron Baker over bringing him back even for one more year. The Knicks had the chance to improve their dire point guard situation even marginally by re-signing Rose, yet they still decided not to take it.

New York wasn’t the only franchise who passed on Rose’s services, though. He garnered very little interest in the free agent market, which was why he was forced to take a minimum contract with the Cavs. The league just doesn’t seem to see much value in the former MVP, who could potentially have another tough time looking for work next summer.
