New York Knicks youngster Frank Ntilikina has been relegated to the bench now that Elfrid Payton has returned from injury, which is a disappointing turn for the youngster as his roller-coaster career continues.

However, the French point guard isn't hanging his head after his return to the bench:

“[Payton’s] playing great basketball,” said Ntilikina on Monday, according to Marc Berman of The New York Post. “It looks easy for him, seeing the court, making those guys comfortable. He’s a great teammate that I can learn a lot from.”

Ntilikina has been in and out of the lineup during his entire career with the Knicks, making this change nothing new from what he has experienced during his two and a half years with the team.

Asked if there was an adjustment to make after returning to the bench, Ntilikina was nonchalant in response:

“The adjustment?’’ Ntilikina said before facing the Washington Wizards. “I tell you every time, it doesn’t matter if I start or not. I just got to be ready when the coach calls my name and go out on the court and do everything I can to help the team.’’

Ntilikina offers a defensive presence, one with a longer wingspan than Payton, who is a decent defender himself. While the minutes may vary, the 6-foot-5 point man still has the same objectives in mind:

“I’m comfortable,’’ Ntilikina said of the switch. “It’s just a role change. When I’m on the court, I know it’s my job. I got to do my job and bring everything I can to the team.’’

Frank Ntilikina and the Knicks are 7-24 after Monday's loss to the Wizards, still in the running for the worst record in the league despite their recent coaching change.
